How will artificial intelligence help couples with fertility disorders?

Fertility disorders affect 1 in 7 couples, and the IVF procedure is expensive and only 30 percent efficient. We talk to Urszula Sankowska, COO of MIM Solutions, winner of the 13th edition of the Businesswoman of the Year competition in the Leader in New Technologies category, about how artificial intelligence can help in the treatment of infertility, what FemTech is, and whether technology will replace doctors.

Estimates say fertility problems may affect up to 20 percent of couples of childbearing age in Poland. How can artificial intelligence help them try for a baby?

Unfortunately, the problem of fertility disorders affects more and more couples in Poland and around the world. About one in seven couples struggle to conceive, meaning there is a high demand for solutions such as in vitro fertilization, also known as IVF. This process includes, among others, fertilization and development of embryos in the laboratory and then selecting a few for implantation in the patients’ uterus. However, this procedure is only 30 percent effective, is costly, and can be mentally and physically burdening for patients. It proves that there are still many challenges and limitations to overcome. We try to help doctors with artificial intelligence (AI) in such challenges. AI-based systems can improve the chances of success, reduce errors, and lead to faster, cheaper, and more accessible treatment processes.
